NaOH, which has recently been suggested as a precursor for ionic species in the stratosphere may be destroyed by reactions with chlorinated species such as Cl, ClO and HCl. Besides sodium, compounds of other metals, e.g. Si, Mg, Fe, and Al may also react with various chlorinated species. A few of these reactions are discussed.
