The nonlinear interaction between intense radar beams and the Farley-Buneman modes in the Earth's atmosphere is considered. The interaction is governed by a pair of equations consisting of the radar beam equation and an equation for the Farley-Buneman modes in the presence of the radar ponderomotive force. Our dynamical equations are used to study the effect of radar beams on the Farley-Buneman instability. It is found that the latter can be stabilized in the presence of radar beams. Implications of our investigation to the suppression of plasma turbulence in dusty meteor trails and polar mesospheric clouds are discussed.
