The ionization rate of O+(2P) ions is determined from measurements of the 7320--30-¿ emission of O+(2D-2P) during the development of the present solar cycle. The results compare favorably to the variation of the F10.7 index and to the ionization rate computed using the solar EUV flux as measured by the EUV spectrometer on the Atmosphere Explorer satellites.
