Newly introduced legislation in the U.S. Congress would establish a National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program, provide improved federal interagency coordination, and encourage mitigation measures. At a 24 March hearing, held by the House of Representatives Science Subcommittee on Environment, Technology, and Standards, witnesses generally were supportive of the legislation's aims and the mitigation components of the proposed program. These components include an improved understanding of windstorms, and windstorm impact assessment and reduction. |
