The Space Weather article, Does the electrical power industry need better storm warnings? is a good description of the argument that the geomagnetic scale known as the K index is inadequate for the power industry. While the K index is not ideal, what we need is not yet practical. For now at least, the K index is one of the most easily understood, best researched, and applicable indices of magnetic activity for the power industry. |
