Methane emisisons to the atmosphere from cypress swamp habitat in four wetland ecosystems of the Southeastern United States range from 0.0046 to 0.068 gCH4m-2day-1. The possible causes for this range include differences in nutrient input and organic accumulation. These results indicate that existing data are inadequate to estimate the role of wetlands as a source of methane to the global troposphere.
