The ultraviolet absorption cross sections of gaseous carbonyl sulfide, OCS, have been measured between 185 and 300 nm at 295K and 225K. The results agree well with previously reported values at wavelengths shorter than 270 nm. We found no evidence of longer wavelength absorption and hence we conclude that destruction of OCS by solar photolysis in the troposphere is negligible.
