The rate constant for the reaction C++CO2 has been measured over the energy range of thermal to 2.5 eV. The present results yield (1.1¿0.2) (-9) cm3s-1 at thermal energy which agrees well with previous measurements. No energy dependence was found for the rate constant below 1 eV. Above 1 eV the rate constant was found to decrease with increasing energy. The present results indicate that energetic C+ ions produced from the photoionization of the CO2 in the Venus ionosphere will not have loss rates greatly reduced from that of thermal C+ ions. |
