The looming collision of historically large geomagnetic storms with modern day electric power grids may produce significant damage to critical infrastructure. The vulnerability to space weather disturbances has been growing largely unchecked as the power grids have grown in size and complexity as our society and nearly all critical services are increasingly dependent on reliable electricity. |
