Clarke, R.T. (2005). The need for better contacts between hydrologists in the two Americas. Eos, Transactions American Geophysical Union 86: doi: 10.1029/2005EO230002. issn: 0096-3941. |
|
The purpose of this article is to (1) draw attention to the lack of contact between researchers in hydrology and water resources in the two Americas, North and South; (2) invite views about what can, or should, be done about it; and (3) invite suggestions about how to improve contacts not only among hydrologists, but also among geophysicists in the two subcontinents generally. South America provides a rich source of material for papers published in AGU journals. As an illustration, searches of AGU journal abstracts from 1988 to the present using AGU-EASI (Earth and Space Index) with the keyword Amazon registered 244 hits, of which 138 were in JGR-Atmospheres and 37 were in Geophysical Research Letters. By contrast, the keyword Mississippi registered 132 hits, with 43 and 37 in the two journals cited. |
