Changes in the velocity of the raindrops due to electrical forces acting on them will change the drag force imparted by the drops to the air through which they are falling. These changes in the drag force have been argued to influence the initiation and development of the downdraft in thunderstorms. Changes in the development of balance levels and the effect of inclined electric fields have also been discussed in this context.
