Ajakaiye, D.E. and Verheijen, P.J.T. (1983). An analysis of a possible episodic plume trace in west africa. Geophysical Research Letters 10: doi: 10.1029/GL010i006p00424. issn: 0094-8276.

The evolution of a plume trace which constitutes the granitic intrusives in the Hoggar, Air, Zinder and the Jos plateau regions has been analyzed using geochronological and topographic data. The trace location is consistent with the idea of the African plate rotating around a pole in West Africa located at about 1.0¿W and 13.9¿N with an angular velocity of about 0.216 degrees/my during the Cambrian to the Jurassic period, possibly with a small deceleration. The major activity seems to occur at intervals of 125¿6 my.
