Preliminary results on tidal flow turbulence acquired from multi-beam Doppler sonar observations are presented. The Doppler sonar is a high resolution system capable of observing the spectrum of radial velocities in the scattering volume with a precision greatly exceeding the Doppler spectrum bandwidth. Such capability provides access to small scale water turbulence observations if foreign contributions to velocity variance are removed. This preliminary analysis of the data is primarily concerned with vertical and horizontal velocity turbulence as related to longitudinal mean flow velocity.
