Stratospheric sulfate was collected by high-altitude aircraft and balloons to assess the impacts of El Chich¿n and an unidentified volcano on the stratosphere. The Mystery Volcano placed about 0.85 Tg of sulfate in the northern hemisphere stratosphere. El Chic¿n injected about 7.6 Tg sulfate into the global stratosphere.
