A common source is suggested for the acetonitrile (CH3CN) and methanol (CH3OH) observed in the stratospheric ions [CH3CN⋅H+⋅(H2O)n> and [CH3OH⋅H+⋅(H2O)n)>. Our chemical scheme originates with the three-body association of HCN and CH2O. Rate constants needed to explain the observations are estimated. An astrophysical application is briefly noted. |
