Three discontinuities within a large disturbance of the interplanetary field, observed at Venus and previously suggested to be due to the possible passage of a comet, are examined to see if they could possibly represent the first observation of a cometary shock. The changes in number density, temperature and velocity as well as the magnetic structure of the discontinuities are consistent with this hypothesis. |
