Tropospheric circulation patterns existing over Eurasian industrial areas and over the Arctic during the Arctic Gas and Aerosol Sampling Program (AGASP), March/April 1983, are described. It is shown that rapid and organized transport of aerosols takes place within transport zones from Eurasia into the Arctic, and that these transport zones are part of distinct and quasi-persistent circulation patterns.
