A critical comparison of two wind measurement techniques (MST radar an rocketsondes) is made using data collected at Poker Flat, Alaska. These techniques provide equivalent wind estimates (well within experimental uncertainty) at heights of 60 to 70 km. An isolated difference between the techniques is attributed to a localized gravity wave. Conjunctive use of both systems can provide continuous wind profiles from the ground to 80 km.
