Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.), ranking member of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, has asked Conrad Lautenbacher, Jr., administrator of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for any information related to the suppression of a set of hurricane frequently asked questions (FAQ) that was prepared by NOAA scientists earlier this year. An internal NOAA panel produced the consensus statement, which examined the role between hurricanes and climate and which was supposed to be released at the start of the 2006 hurricane season. The FAQ had received the necessary approvals within NOAA, but an unidentified official in the Department of Commerce instructed the chair of the panel that created the report not to release it. Gordon's letter and additional information are available at httpc//sciencedems.house.gov/press/PRArticle. aspx?NewsID=1207 |
