Two NASA satellites, with missions to study the vertical distributions of clouds and aerosols within the atmosphere, were launched on 28 April from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. The satellites, CloudSat and CALIPSO (Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations), eventually will circle approximately 705 kilometers above Earth for three years in a sun-synchronous polar orbit. |
