In their continuing studies, Ladage et al. <2006> reported and discussed the bathymetry of 600 kilometers of the trench region offshore northwestern Sumatra. They appear to have assumed the conventional plate model of convergence. Of significance, the investigators who conducted previous modern experiments did not identify the megathrust, which is required for the large displacements of the model, on any of their seismic reflection profiles of the Sumatra/Sunda trench. These investigators include Kopp et al. <2001> and Schl¿ter et al. <2002> each of whom reported two multichannel trench-normal profiles offshore southeastern Sumatra, and Moore and Curray <1980> who reported five of them offshore Nias Island, northwestern Sumatra. |
