We demonstrate here, for the first time, that the scattering of a shear Alfvin wave (SAW) having a long perpendicular wavelength (λ $perp$ ), with a localized density cavity, generates perturbations in the field structures like that expected from the radiation pattern of an Alfvin wave resonance cone (AWRC) emitted from localized sources. Such a SAW-cavity interaction provides a novel mechanism for generating narrow structures of inertial Alfvin waves like those observed from satellites and variously called solitary, kinetic and dispersive Alfvin waves. |
