Singh, N. and Khazanov, I. (2007). Scattering of long wavelength shear Alfvén waves by a localized density cavity. Geophysical Research Letters 34: doi: 10.1029/2006GL028831. issn: 0094-8276.

We demonstrate here, for the first time, that the scattering of a shear Alfvin wave (SAW) having a long perpendicular wavelength (λ $perp$ ), with a localized density cavity, generates perturbations in the field structures like that expected from the radiation pattern of an Alfvin wave resonance cone (AWRC) emitted from localized sources. Such a SAW-cavity interaction provides a novel mechanism for generating narrow structures of inertial Alfvin waves like those observed from satellites and variously called solitary, kinetic and dispersive Alfvin waves.
