The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering three rule changes that would reduce the frequency and thresholds for reporting of toxic chemical releases by industrial facilities. The EPA's Toxics Release Inventory, established in 1988, contains information on about 650 chemicals released by various industries. Available online, the database is searchable by zip code and is used by a wide range of individuals, including scientists, emergency responders, and conservationists. |
