2.3.14 Display Additional Statistics
Choosing the Options # Additional
Statistics menu item displays a dialogbox containing a summary of the plateau age (or J-value),
plus a list of additional statistical parameters describing the shape and form
of the plateau itself. The perfect (flat) age plateau would have a slope and
skewness of zero, a high positive kurtosis and a low square of deviations.
Note The Plateau Slope is expressed here as the age difference over the age plateau for each 10% of the total amount of 39Ar(k) released in your experiment. In the example above the age plateau has a width of 60%and
includes 14 incremental heating steps (data not shown in this dialogbox). The measured ages thus decreased by 6 x -0.316 Ma = -1.896 Ma over the course of this particular age plateau. Although this may indicate some minor 39Ar recoil acting on the age plateau, the disturbance falls within the 95% confidence
envelop of this age plateau, as shown by a MSWD of 2.0 that is still lower than the t-student test value of 2.16 (not shown here).
