Description
The graph shows data from different samples that have allowed scientists to determine the strength of the dipole moment for the Earth's magnetic field over the past 9000 years. Based on the graph, it can be seen that the intensity of the magnetic field has fluctuated throughout Earth's history. Most magnetic field data is obtained from oceanic sediment. The numbers for each data point in the graph represent the total number of samples analyzed to obtain the magnetic field intensity. When there is more than one sample the data is averaged to determine the magnetic intensity. |
