Description
The third chapter in Naomi Oreskes' Plate Tectonics: An Insider's History of the Modern Theory of the Earth, written Frederick Vine. Vine explains the contributions he made through out his scientific career, specfically in the 1960's, to the overall concept of plate tectonics. He provides information about the discovery and acceptance of three phenomena regarding the symmetry and reversal of magnetic stripes on the seafloor, that supported and validated the infamous Vine-Matthews Hypothesis. He includes his experiences and successes leading up his initial influential paper, then the process he went through after with the help of other leading scientists in the field to present a complete and solid review paper in 1966. |
