The amplitude of the electromagnetic field radiated (as an imposed antenna current) by a semi-infinite rarefied nonmonoenergetic electron beam artificially injected from a satellite into the Earth ionosphere is calculated far from the injection point (near the remote receiver) by the use of a two-dimensional Stationary Phase Point method. The Stationary Phase Point, which gives the main contribution to the radiated field near the remote receiver, is defined by two variables: the parallel beam velocity u and the frequency &ohgr; of the radiated signal. The size of its vicinity, {Δu,Δ&ohgr;}2D, governing the wave packet amplitude far from the beam, is inversely proportional to the transverse distance of the receiver to the beam axis. A qualitative scheme of formation of the wave field near the remote receiver is discussed for different limiting cases on the level of beam monoenergeticity and spectral characteristics of the remote receiver. ¿ 1999 American Geophysical Union
