Methods are described whereby it is possible to measure directly electron temperatures by observations of the plasma line in incoherent scatter radar experiments. The method is based on simultaneous observations of plasma lines at different spatial scales. It is described how the observations can be implemented either as a combination of monostatic and bistatic observations at one radar frequency or as a dual frequency backscatter experiment.
