Richards, P.G., Torr, D.G. and Espy, P.J. (1982). Determination of photoionization branching ratios and total photoionization cross sections at 304 Å from experimental ionospheric photoelectron fluxes. Journal of Geophysical Research 87: doi: 10.1029/JA087iA05p03599. issn: 0148-0227.

High resolution measurements of the ionospheric photoelectron spectrum have been used to evaluate (1) the ratio of the molecular nitrogen density to the atomic oxygen density, (2) the sum of the total photoionization cross sections for N2 and O at 304 ¿, (3) the 2P/4S and 2D/4S branching ratios for photoionization of atomic oxygen by 304 ¿ solar radiation, (4) the B/X and A/X branching ratios for the photoionization of molecular nitrogen by 304 ¿ solar radiation, (5) the ratios 2P/B, 2D/A, and 4S/X of the partial photoionization cross sections of N2, and (6) the ratio of the N2 total photoionization cross section to that of O at 304 ¿.
