Direct measurements of the Labrador Current along the eastern edge of the Grand Banks were made for a 77-day period (April--June) in 1977. The mean current was southward parallel to the isobaths with speeds of 46 cm s-1 and 18 cm s-1 at 110 m and 380 m depth, respectively. In addition to a semidiurnal tidal signal the current variations appear to be of two primary types. A low-frequency (10- to 16-day period) variation dominates the current records at both records at both depths and is coherent with the local wind stress. A 2- to 4-day period variation is evident in the measurements at 110 m depth.
