The parametric relation between output quality abd dissipation in a one-dimensional ocean with radiative dissipation is shown to be quantitatively similar to the relation derived numerically by synthesis of the world ocean tide from normal modes. The relation indicates that the equivalent oscillator is near resonance at its fundamental frequency.
