It is shown that very low frequency sea level variations can be calculated from the sum of the steric or density effect and the wind-driven setup derived from barotropic dynamics, provided that a weak slope criterion is met. This result is shown to be consistent with a recent two-layer formulation for wind-driven shelf motions. ¿ American Geophysical Union 1991 |
