As part of a larger project to model sand transport over isolated dunes and the temporal evolution of such dunes the present paper describes a wind flow simulation that results from an application of the MS3DJH/1.5 model (Walmsley et al., 1982) to the dune studied by Howard et al. (1978). A comparison is made between the calculations and observations of surface wind direction and wind speed at 80 cm above terrain on the upwind side of the dune. The mean error and rms deviation from the mean error, respectively, are about 0.2¿ and 7¿ for surface wind direction and -9.09 and 0.08 for normalized wind speed. |
