We try to correct the change of the brightness temperature of the spaceborne microwave radiometer caused by the angle between the wind and the sensor azimuth (relative wind direction) and to reduce the effect on the wind speed by an experimental way. We make the preliminary approach by comparing the SSM/I brightness temperature collocated with the QuikSCAT wind vector cell. The change of brightness temperature in 37/19 GHz in the horizontal polarization caused by wind is defined as the shift from the relationship between the horizontal and the vertical polarizations without surface wind (PS37/PS19). We propose two hopeful approaches to correct the brightness temperatures. By comparing the observed PS37/PS19 with the value in the PS37/PS19 tables, the correction is done without knowing the information of the in situ vector wind. The relative wind direction effect on the retrieved wind speed is almost halved by this approach.
