This paper is aimed at investigating the effects of topography and initial conditions on self-organization based on numerical experiments using the quasi-geostrophic barotropic vorticity equation with topography-term and advection equation models. The results show that if the topography's maximum height is less than 1.5 km then the mutual rotation of the two meso-¿ vortices do not self-organize. However, a single larger-scale vortex is formed if this maximum topography height is larger than 1.5 km. When there is no topography present, two meso-¿ vortices do not self-organize but if a meso-γ vortex is added then self-organization occurs and a synoptic-scale typhoon-like vortex forms.
